Responsible to: Retail and Concessions Manager
Responsible for: Leading the delivery of the in-house café at WINGS 2020 including required preparation and build up to the event.

Providing hot drinks and light snacks and refreshments as found in any high street café including both takeaway and drink-in service to staff, leaders and participants.

Please note this is separate to that of the staff catering provision.

Role purpose and scale: To be responsible for developing and delivering the café at WINGS 2020 and leading a team to achieve this.
Key activities of the role: Specific Responsibilities:

  • Developing the scope of onsite café including menus, name, theme etc
  • Preparing a budget and costings with the wider finance team
  • Working with the Retail and Concessions Manager to recruit a team
  • Training and managing the Café Team in all required working practices
  • Identifying key suppliers of stock and working with the wider jamboree teams to maximise buying power wherever possible
  • Identifying and sourcing required equipment with the Retail and Concessions Manager
  • Implementing appropriate controls and finance procedures
  • Implementing health and hygiene controls and procedures including dietary and allergy accommodations
  • Reporting leading up to and post the event, including lessons learned
  • Attendance at regular meetings with the rest of the Retail and Concessions Team
  • Other roles within the Retail and Concessions team as agreed from time to time.
Time Commitment Your involvement will begin as soon as your appointment has been confirmed and will end with the delivery of the final reports.

As well as attending the WINGS 2020 event itself, you will be expected to attend Retail and Concessions Team meetings, and other meetings and events as required.

  • Envisaged monthly skype meetings, quarterly face to face meetings dependent on locations.
  • You will be expected to be on site for a proportion of the week before the event for the build as well as the event itself.
Role requirements By accepting this role:

  • You will be required to be or become a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) or the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM).
  • You will be required to hold a current DBS Disclosure through either Girlguiding or The Scout Association UK.

The appointee must:

a)   accept the values of Scouting and Guiding

b)   agree not to promote any beliefs, behaviours or practices that are not compatible with the values of Scouting or Guiding

c)    agree to work within the policies and rules of both Associations

d)   have not been convicted of any other offence(s) or subject to disciplinary proceedings relevant to this role

Person specification To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate a number of the following competencies:

  • Experience of events of this scale would be useful but is not essential.
  • Knowledge of catering would be beneficial including sourcing, stock management, managing staff.
  • Knowledge of managing food hygiene.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience of managing a team.
