Nicolette Smith

Head of Water Activities

I’m Nicolette Smith, head of Water Activities for WINGS 2020. I also had this role for WINGS 2014 and was an instructor for WINGs 2009. Why do I want to do this role again? I have absolutely no idea, I must be nuts. Maybe it’s because I had a great time, had a fantastic team to work with, met lots of great people and the participants all left the water sites with smiles on their faces. 5,000 smiles in a week isn’t a bad achievement for a volunteering role. I am a canoe and kayak coach, a summer mountain leader, bell boat helm and I’ve even had a go at dinghy sailing!

I have been involved in Scouting for 19 years this year, starting in Venture Scouts, but then quickly got roped in to becoming a leader. I gained my Queen’s Scout and Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s as a Venture Scout. I have organised various large scale District camps, been on numerous International Berkshire County trips, run a Troop and a Young Leaders’ unit. My current role in Scouting is in Maidenhead, Berkshire where I’m involved in District events.

I’m always looking for new challenges and adventures in Scouting to help make a difference, to provide even better Scouting to even more young people. I am looking forward to getting stuck into the WINGS 2020 project for all the reasons I loved WINGS 2014.

My spare time involves anything active – swimming, climbing, mountaineering, cycling, yoga and walking my dog Millie.
