Responsible to: Retail and Concessions Manager
Responsible for: Supporting the Retail and Concessions Manager in providing the main retail outlet at WINGS 2020 including required preparation and build up to the event.

Selling everything from sweets, to drinks, to ice creams, to clothing, to souvenirs, as well as the essentials people forgot to pack; this will be the only shop onsite. Selling items all day, and a reduced provision in the evenings.

Role purpose and scale: To support the Retail and Concessions Manager developing and delivering the shop at WINGS 2020 and managing the team to achieve this.
Key activities of the role: Specific Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the implementation of the onsite shop
  • Taking the lead in training and managing the Shop Team in all required working practices
  • Working with the Retail and Concessions Manager to implement appropriate controls and finance procedures
  • Working with the Retail and Concessions Manager to implement health and hygiene controls and procedures
  • Managing rotas and shift patterns for the Shop Team for the duration of the event
  • Managing and reporting on levels of stock during the event.  Working with the Retail and Concessions Manager to arrange restocking as appropriate
  • Provide input to reporting post the event, including lessons learned
  • Attendance at regular meetings with the rest of the Retail and Concessions Team
  • Other roles within the Retail and Concessions team as agreed from time to time
Time Commitment Your involvement will begin as soon as your appointment has been confirmed and will end with the delivery of the final reports.

As well as attending the WINGS 2020 event itself, you will be expected to attend Retail and Concessions Team meetings, and other meetings and events as required.

  • Envisaged monthly skype meetings, quarterly face to face meetings dependent on locations.
  • You will be expected to be on site for a proportion of the week before the event for the build as well as the event itself.
Role requirements By accepting this role:

  • You will be required to be or become a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) or the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM).
  • You will be required to hold a current DBS Disclosure through either Girlguiding or The Scout Association UK.

The appointee must:

a)   accept the values of Scouting and Guiding

b)   agree not to promote any beliefs, behaviours or practices that are not compatible with the values of Scouting or Guiding

c)    agree to work within the policies and rules of both Associations

d)   have not been convicted of any other offence(s) or subject to disciplinary proceedings relevant to this role

Person specification To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate a number of the following competencies:

  • Keen and eager to deliver a great experience for those attending the event, and those working within the shop.
  • Experience of events of this scale would be useful but is not essential.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience of managing a team would be useful but is not essential

This is an ideal role to get experience in the above areas, working closely with the Retail and Concessions Manager to deliver the shop.
