Role purpose As a Wings in a Day (WIAD) Team Lead, you will play a key role within the WINGS Programme Team. You will be responsible for planning and delivering a day-long experience for younger sections (such as Cubs and Brownies), offering them a fun, safe, and engaging taste of the full WINGS camp.

You will lead a team of volunteers and support staff, coordinate logistics on the day, and ensure all activities run smoothly, safely, and in line with both Scouting and Guiding safeguarding standards.

Key activities of the role: Planning and Preparation

  • Work with the Co-Heads of Programme and wider team to shape the WIAD experience and contribute ideas.
  • Attend Programme Team meetings in the lead-up to the event.
  • Help design a timetable of age-appropriate activities inspired by the WINGS experience.
  • Liaise with other activity zone leads to ensure WIAD groups can access sessions safely and efficiently.

On the Day

  • Take overall responsibility for up to 300 young participants and their leaders, split into smaller groups
  • Coordinate the delivery of a varied and engaging programme of activities, which may include:
    • Climbing or bouldering (unharnessed, low-level)
    • Geocaching (e.g. a treasure hunt around the Squircle with prizes)
    • Circus skills
    • Inflatables
    • Crafts
    • Drumming
    • Archery
  • Support your team in guiding participants between sessions, ensuring everyone is included, safe, and having fun.
  • Be the main point of contact for any issues or concerns raised by visiting groups or activity leaders during WIAD.

Leadership and Teamwork

  • Build and manage a small team of volunteers to help support the WIAD programme.
  • Motivate, support, and guide team members to deliver a positive experience for everyone involved.
  • Ensure all team members understand and apply relevant health, safety, and safeguarding policies.
Time Commitment
  • Your involvement will begin as soon as your appointment has been confirmed and will end when the WINGS 2026 camp closes.
  • You will need to identify the amount of time the role will take on a month to month basis between appointment and camp close
  • As well as attending the WINGS 2026 event itself, you will be expected to attend Programme Team meetings as required
Role requirements By accepting this role:

  • You will be required to become a member of WAGGGS or WOSM if not already.
  • You will be required to hold a current DBS Disclosure through either Girlguiding or The Scout
  • You will be required to hold a county appointment in one of Girlguiding Royal Berkshire or Berkshire

The appointee must:

  1. accept the values of Scouting and Guiding
  2. agree not to promote any beliefs, behaviours or practices that are not compatible with the values of Scouting or Guiding
  3. agree to work within the polices and rules of both Associations
  4. have not been convicted of any other offence(s) or subject to disciplinary proceedings relevant to this role
Capabilities To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate a number of the following competencies:

  • Experience of working with young people and other adults
  • Good organisational skills and confidence when dealing with people
  • Experience of dealing with large groups of people
