“Our grass is a bit greener!”
Walking around the impressive Windsor Great Park on Saturday, you can’t have missed the Scouts and Explorers from Scotland who are arguably leading the race for the best dressed at WINGS 2026.
Adorned in their kilts and with an impressively designed ‘neckie’ and badge just for the occasion, the group were on fine form as they prepared for the opening ceremony.
“We have two six-meter poles with windsocks; we’re from Scotland so we’re proud to advertise that.” Said adult volunteer Jo. “You won’t miss us! We have a nice neckie and badge designed by the young people – and a duck one that we’re flying to do with a leader badge.”
If you are on the lookout for exciting things to trade, keep an eye out for the group as they have knight themed duck woggles to swap – and there was even talk of a lit-up duck in a paddling pool. Certainly, helpful in the heat, which was a recurring talking point from the young people themselves.
Jamie and Jude from Stirling said they’d been enjoying their time at WINGS so far. “It’s definitely different weather to Scotland,” they said. “But our grass is a bit greener!”
The others all said they are hoping to make new friends and memories after training camps in preparation for WINGS were held in rainy conditions. One of the group members said he chose to attend WINGS ‘to prove to myself that I could pay for something like this.”
Members of 11th Bridge of Allan explained it was their first time at a Jamboree, with mixed feelings of nerves and excitement. “It’s going to be fun,” said one.
Fun it most definitely will be – let’s give our new Scottish friends a wave when you see them around in the coming week.
